Seeking peer review leadership for 2009
NHMRC will soon contact all administering institutions, seeking nominations from distinguished Australian health and medical researchers to assist NHMRC in establishing peer review panels and nominating external assessors for Project Grants, Fellowships and Program Grants for the 2009 funding round.
NHMRC will be seeking nominations of researchers who have a strong knowledge of their broad fields of research and a high reputation for integrity and fairness, and who can help NHMRC over the April–May 2009 period in particular.
NHMRC–European Union health research grants
The NHMRC-European Union (EU) Collaborative Research Grants scheme helps Australian researchers participate in projects with international researchers who have been selected for funding under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European community for research and technology development (FP7).
NHMRC has limited funds to help Australian participation in projects selected for funding by the European Commission under FP7.
Australian researchers must be part of the original application submitted to the European Commission and the application to NHMRC must be submitted within two weeks of the European Commission closing date.

Last call for 2009 NICS Fellowships
Applications are invited from early-to-mid-career health professionals who are committed to improving health care and developing a leadership role in the uptake of evidence into clinical practice.
The two-year, half-time Fellowships are co-sponsored by some of Australia's leading health organisations.
Applications close Monday 27 October 2008.
First licences granted for the derivation of human embryonic stem cells from cloned embryos
Australia's first licences allowing the creation of cloned embryos for the derivation of human embryonic stem cell lines were issued by NHMRC this week.
Public comment on the Type 2 Diabetes guidelines
Diabetes Australia is reviewing the 2001 National Evidence Based Guidelines for the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
pdated drafts of sections of the guidelines (Evidence Based Guideline for Diagnosis, Prevention and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease in Type 2 Diabetes and Evidence Based Guideline for Blood Glucose Control in Type 2 Diabetes) are now available for public comment until 5pm Monday 29 September 2008 and 5pm Tuesday 30 September respectively.
