Australia to become a member of the international Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Opportunities for Interdisciplinary research

The NHMRC is pleased to announce that Australia, through the NHMRC, will shortly become a member of the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP). As a result, Australian researchers will be able to apply as Principal Applicants on Research Grants under this Program as of 2005. The NHMRC places a high priority on international research collaborations, is active in the international arena and continues to remain aware of opportunities for strategic collaboration.

The HFSP supports international collaborations in basic research with emphasis placed on novel, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to fundamental investigations in the life sciences. The call for letters of intent will be made in the near future for grants and people support awards for projects on complex mechanisms of living organisms. The HFSP research grant program aims to stimulate novel, daring ideas by supporting collaborative research involving biologists together with scientists from other disciplines such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science and engineering. HFSP supports only international, collaborative teams, with an emphasis on encouraging scientists early in their careers.

Applications for Research Grants will open on the HFSP website on 7 January 2004 via their website www.hfsp.org . Further details will be advertised on the NHMRC website on 5 January 2005 and can be found at www.hfsp.org . If you have any queries please contact the HFSP directly or:
